Noah Goes Home To Idaho!

On December 9, 2006 Noah, Melinda and Nate returned to Boise. Ryan had brought Laurin and Spencer home after Thanksgiving.

Melinda’s dad Chip and brother Chris drove to pick them up from their long stay in Palo Alto, while Ryan, Mel’s mother Kathy, brother Matt, family and friends readied the “clean “ house for Noah. (New very low carpet, paint, etc to remove all the cat dander).

Noah will continue to be monitored by specialists in Boise and will need to visit his team in CA at Stanford again in January. His Mom and he will fly back for a week for his biopsy. At first he will have to have the biopsies every month, then every 3 months, eventually once a year.

A quick recap; Noah and his Mom left Boise May 17, 2006 for some tests at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. After being told Noah needed a new heart they were flown to Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA where they waited… When a heart became available on Sept 1, 2006 Noah got his new heart. Noah got out of the hospital on his 5th birthday Oct 6, 2006, for the first time, but several days later was back in with some serious complications. He was released again just before Halloween. Noah had regular biopsies to monitor for rejection, and when he finally had zeros he was told he could go home to Boise.

When Melinda and Noah left Boise in May I don’t think she or Ryan had any idea they wouldn’t return in a couple of weeks tops. What they have been through as a family is exhausting to say the least, but they made it. We are so very grateful this chapter in their lives has a happy ending.

I don’t think they would have made it without all your love and support, emotionally, spiritually or financially. I can’t thank you all enough for all you have done for our family!

Melinda and Ryan are so grateful and fortunate to have such supportive family and friends.

I am posting for the Badermans based on a voice mail. Melinda got the call! If all went according to plan, Noah went into surgery at 4 p.m. today to receive his new heart!

Prayers go out for the family who is grieving tonight but bravely made the decision to give new life amid their own loss. The Badermans will be forever grateful.

Noah will still have a long recovery and need to be away from home for awhile longer, continuing the financial strain on the family. If you can support them through this remaining time in any small way, it would be most appreciated.

According to the Organ Donor website, more than 92,000 people are waiting for a transplant.

To help pay for some of the rising expenses our family is facing, The Ram Restaurant in Meridian, Idaho is holding a fundraiser next month. Noah's mother, Melinda, works there and fellow employees wanted to do what they could to help. They decided to donate all tips made on July 14 to the Noah's Have A Heart Fund.

5.28.2006 - Noah and his mother Melinda were transported to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in the Stanford University Medical Center to be listed as a candidate for a heart transplant. His right ventricle is failing and there is nothing more that can be done except a heart transplant.

6.9.2006 - Noah has been put on the UNOS organ recipient list and is classified as a 1B. The only thing higher is a 1A. Noah however is the only A positive blood type on the list, at this time in the Stanford area.

6.13.2006 - Noah was moved out of the ICU and back to the floor. The re-introduction to Milrinone seems to have been a beneficial decision. He was eating much more comfortably, and "KEEPING IT DOWN". Melinda is being trained tomorrow by the doctors on administering his p.i.c. line (long term IV) from home.

Noah is currently on the schedule to be discharged on THURSDAY to stay at the Ronald McDonald house at Stanford. This does not mean that Noah is better, or will be. His status on the Transplant list will not change. the fact that he is on Milrinone, maintains his status. He is in severe heart failure. The first A+ blood type harvest will signal a page/cellular call to have Melinda return within an hour or so. Within a few more after that Noah will undergo having a heart transplant.
